Pittsburgh, PA – August 16, 2023 — We are proud to announce our first Lexington Independents culinary management partnership in Pennsylvania with the Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh!
According to Julia Posteraro, Executive Director of Finance and Operations, “Lexington was the ideal choice as they have in-depth private school food service experience, and mirror our commitment to fostering authenticity through diversity, equity, and inclusion. We felt a connection with Lexington as they understand the challenges in supporting students from all backgrounds as evidenced through their culturally diverse menus and hospitality programs.”
Students and faculty will experience Lexington’s gracious hospitality as well as our exceptional culinary program and engaging customer service. The new culinary team will prepare authentic & innovative favorites from the Classic Kitchen; including made-to-order sandwiches from The Local Deli. Lexington embraces ingredients from different cultures and communities, crafting recipes to make students feel at home – while creating a food learning opportunity for all.
Greens will offer plant-based foods and an expansive salad bar with fresh leafy greens, crisp vegetables, and more! Lexington’s Fresh to Go Market offers grab-and-go freshly prepared salads, deli sandwiches, and other healthy convenient meals for faculty and students on the run, made daily.
Customized menus through our new End2End menu management system will show transparent ingredients including the Top 9 Allergens and is designed for students who request gluten-free, vegetarian, and allergen-free friendly meals. In addition to healthy menu options, Winchester Thurston will have access to a Lexington regional dietitian who will help create meal plans that meet specific diets.
A Sweet Shoppe will tempt those who have a sweet tooth with freshly baked cakes, cookies, and pastries.

Lexington is excited to partner with Winchester Thurston to help redesign a brand new dining hall focused completely on the student experience. Future sustainability plans include local sourcing, food composting, and energy-saving equipment which will enhance the healthy, safe, and sustainable dining experience.
